2009 Cochiti Lake Art Fair Moves to New Community Center

The Cochiti Lake Community Center will be the site for
the Annual Cochiti Lake Art Fair on September 26 and 27,
2009.
The completion of the new adobe building
adjacent to Lake
Plaza
in
Cochiti Lake
brings the Art Fair back to where it was started more than 30 years ago by
the Cochiti Lake Art Guild.

Artists from
Cochiti
Lake,
Cochiti Pueblo, and Pena Blanca will be selling their handcrafted wares from
10 to 4 each day.
A partial list of artists who will be
participating include SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market award winner Nocona
Burgess (paintings), Snowflake Flower and Nadine Pecos (storytellers),
Murray Lewis, Grace Carey, Kathyrne Anson and Fay Thompson (paintings),
Nellie Pacheco and Janice Kitchens (jewelry), Ortiz family members
Joyce
Ortiz Lewis and Guadalupe (pottery, clay figures and drums), Sandra and
Michael Kadisak (pottery and figures), Jenny Pridgen Furgesson (stained
glass, metal and wood), Wally Kasl (furniture), Michele Heeney and Coleen
Jones (photos) and much more

There will
also be a Silent Auction of unique art, crafts and other donated items to
raise money for local arts and educational organizations.
In the past the contributions have gone to UNM
for scholarships in art and art education, the Head Start programs at Pena
Blanca and Cochiti Pueblo for art supplies, Cochiti School for their opera
workshop, the Pena Blanca Senior Center for art supplies, the Cochiti Lake
Library, and to provide free tickets for museums and symphonies to the
Cochiti area public.

Visitors
will also be able to pick up information about the Artists’ Studio Tour
being held
the same week-end in town. Food, baked goods and drink will be available for
purchase.
And just down the road at Dixon’s,
the apples will be ready
.
